Around 21 years ago a good friend of my husbands died He died to young and would only be in his sixty's now. I have been thinking a lot about him lately......wish he could have lived to see our girls grow up and would love for him to meet our grandson, what would he be doing now. I wrote the following poem the year he died which was on Valentine's Day.
A friend has died!
But everyday we see him in countless ways:
His laughter, wit, and silly grin
All these things remind us of him.
Taken away so suddenly,
Was such a shock for you and me.
You were with him in the end
Always, forever, a caring friend.
You grieve so quietly, silently,
While I grieve for all the world to see.
Each of us in our own special way
Will never forget that tragic day.
Our life goes on; it seems the same,
The impact of this will always remain.
A friend has died,
But everyday we see him in countless ways.

what a beautiful poem. friends leave little touches along the way that shape our lives...
I love that people leave pieces of themselves behind for us to enjoy. :)
I am sorry for your loss, but it is so wonderful to know you think of him still, and that you shared this lovely poem. Life is all too brief as it is, and when someone dies too early, it is tragic.
Oh Gayle, your lovely poem brought tears to my eyes. It can relate to so many who passed on too soon.
Thanks for sharing.
What a beautiful poem, Gayle! It made me think of several people in my life who were gone too soon. But I am so grateful for the memories they left behing.

Gosh, I'm sorry for your loss. He certainly meant a lot for you to write this nice poem at the time.
Very beautiful way of expressing how those who have died stay with us forever and how we grieve in different ways. My parents both died when I was 18 and your poem, especially the last verse, was very meaningful to me.
Im so sorry for your loss. He must have been very important in your life if you still think about him.
It's a reminder to appreciate our loved ones while they are still with us. Thank you for posting.
A perfect example of your dear friend living on in the legacy of his impact on your life. Thank you for sharing this with us!
Lovely poem and tribute to your friend.

That is a loving poem in memory of a friend you still miss. I'm glad you posted this and shared with us.
This is how I am about a sister inlaw who passed when we were 24 from a massive heart attack. I still miss her and that was almost 20 years ago.
You have an award at my blog.
What a lovely tribute. I'm sure he was a wonderful man. My daughter lost her best friend in an auto accident when they were 22 years old. I look at my daughter now at 35 and wonder what Shanna would be like today...would she be married? A mom? Where would she live? She will forever be 22 to us and will always be in our hearts. Like you, we are so grateful that we knew her even though her time here was way too short.
beautiful poem. It's always hard to lose someone close to you
What a lovely poem.
We all grieve for someone/or many.
It is a part of living.
And it makes us better people for it too.
What a beautiful poem. It sounds like Ed was a great friend, and great man.
Isn't it a blessing to be able to remember and cherish such great memories?
It is a beautiful poem, each grieving in their own way. Cherish the memories, so many things remind you I am sure, thanks for sharing, take care.Be well.
I am so sorry for your loss. I have been there too... losing a friend. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think how things would be different today if he was still here. I just hope he knew how much he meant to my husband and I. Enough said because I think I am going to go cry now! :'-(
What a nice tribute, both then and now!
What a lovely tribute. He must have been a very special man.
Wonderful poem Gayle, thanks so much for sharing. Your words have expressed something I felt but didn't know how to say about another man who died far to soon...
It is nice of you to remember your friend this way.

I can remember the day Ed died like it was yesterday. I was the one that got the phone call from him calling dad to take him to the hospital. We alwasy picked on each other and that day he yelled just get your dad on the phone. He was a really good friend to dad. That poem was so sweet, I didn't know you wrote it or I forgot. Thanks for the tears! Love you
