My daughter, grandson, husband and I rode around and discovered these cows. Aren't they cute? My daughter thought they look just like an Oreo cookie! Anyone know their real name?
HOw awesome we have cows just like that down the street. I live in the country. The cows down the street are called Oreo but pronouced O ray O. They are so cute! Anyway hope your doing well! TheMeWithin.com
Very cute cows and they come with their own milk...lol I had to do a search to see if I could find out what they are called. They are Belted Galloway Cows. The one website said that they are a rare breed of Scottish beef cattle that was introduced to the United State back in the 50's.
I don't care what the technical name of these cows is. From now on, in my mind, the name will always be Oreo Cows. I want to send a copy of these pictures to my granddaughter. She would get a kick out of them.
Belted Galloways -- we used to have a small herd -- darling looking creatures, especially the calves. But we found that they were prone to break through our fences and go a-wandering. We now have a different breed -- Beef Devons -- that seem conent to stay home.
The pictures remind me of a recent visit to an Amish farm in Lancaster County, PA. I got an up close look at several cows in their stalls, the milk in the huge vat, mules, sheep, etc. Like a child, I was very fascinated! I don't know what those cows are called in your pictures, but one of my neighbor's dog has that same curly haired spotted black and white look, and is named...you guessed it, Oreo. That was a fun outing for you, I'm sure.
We have two herds of Oreos here in Upstate NY I hear the name, then immediately forget it. The road signs"Watch for Cows"have their middles painted white LOL

How cool is that? I've never seen cows like these before. Think they go well with milk?
Cows in Illinois don't look anything like those. I would like to know though. They are neat looking.
I don't recall seeing this type of cow here in Southern PA. I think your grandson picked the perfect nick name for them!
Cool looking cows.

I have never seen cows like that, though I like the comparison to Oreo cookies. I'd be inclined to call them Oreo cookie cows.
Cheers,

Cute cows and their name fits!
I don't know their name but I bet they are being raised for beef :(
I <3 cows almost as much as chickens!
Dutch Belted is another name for them...
They remind me of an ice cream sandwich...which I like just as much as oreos. Are the cows used for milking?
