Does anyone know when these HOT FLASHES will END? I am so tired of them!! One minute I am freezing.......my husband likes it cool/cold in the house and then next I am burning up HOT!!
I don't want to say this outloud - but I don't really get them - YET!!! I am almost 55 and just and only thinking that the Big B might be starting - 2 months and counting.
Now that said I get the night sweats every once in a while.
Gayle, I am not quite there yet, but that picture says it all...I wish you all the best with this...I would be keeping fans and heaters around, then your covered. Be well my friend.
I thought mine stopped at 58 or so but I still get one every once in a while and I'm (gasp) 66. If you can avoid it, don't take hormones....not good for you and I think it just prolongs it. What I hate just as much as the hot flashes are the pesky chin hairs!!!! Whenever I find one and I'm out in public, I feel like everyone within a 12 block radius is looking right at me and at IT.
I've had one or two...mostly at night. Like food cravings or lonely feelings, I guess ya need a plan of action - what to do when they occur. Cus it seems they will occur! :D A smile and a "knowing nod" is a good start.
I don't have the problem to the extent that I've heard others have but I can relate to the one minute freezing the next burning up. I can't say how long it last because it hasn't ended for me yet.
I'm 67 and haven't had them for awhile now. But I do remember them. My friend Judy still has them and she's only a year younger than me. So it's all very individual. They don't usually last indefinitely, though!
I'm dealing with the beginning stages of menopause and the side effects are awful-I think everyone is so different...I hope this stage ends soon for you.
Hey Gayle....This is the "other Gayle" from Mommie Dearest Sometimes. I just realized you had a blog (oops). So now I am a follower! I did notice we spell our names the same, LOVE IT! I used to get so upset when I was a kid because everyone wanted to spell my name "Gail" because that was supposed to be the girlie way! Whatever! I think G.a.y.l.e is just fine!

Don't know. Not a woman. But I think that as long as you are feeling hot or cold you are alive. That is a good thing - I thnk. Now if I were still married to my ex I might not think so.
I believe every woman is different... some only get them for a little while, and some never stop getting them. You will just have to wait and see eh? Mine were dreadful and very frequent for about 2 years.. now they are easing off and not as bad.
I had them while I was on HRT, and now that I'm not. They aren't brutal, but they aren't fun either. They stop eventually, but avoiding spicy foods helps.
Keep a food diary..it will help you to sort them out. Mine are brought on by garlic, licorice and Heinz 57 steak sauce.. They are the pits..you have my sympathy..they will peak at some point..for me that was about 53 or so ( three years of hell) ..then it gets a little better..until you can sleep all night again!! :)
When I had the same condition a few years ago, I felt the same way. After a couple years ago, I asked the doctor when would it be over, and he said most times the menopause symptoms last ten friggin' years. I almost fainted. TEN YEARS> I am happy to say I have put that all behind me now and I am old but I do not have the hot flashes anymore!!! I feel for you.
I get those terrible night sweats but I've been taking an over the counter thing called Estroven ... it does help. I keep wondering when MY PERIOD IS GOING TO STOP! I'M 53 AND STILL REGULARLY GETTING ONE! UGH!
I know this will sound strange, but mine stopped when I started working at the chiropractic office, got adjustments to my spine on a regular basis and she had me stop eating all wheat because my body couldn't tolerate it. Why that stopped them I don't know, but never had a problem after that!
Maybe it depends on how our bodies are functioning in part. She made mine function better and it helped with that, and I just felt fantastic in general.
Oh I wish I knew, I'm hoping it's only the couple of years "they" say. BTW, I will be doing a giveaway on a great DVD set on Menopause next week so stay tuned, some great info on here that I wish I had had before menopause
Wow, that totally blows. I have a lot of empathy for you. If it were me, I would probably prescribe a course of several glasses of scotch each day until the problem went away or I needed a new liver, whichever came first. Good luck!

Man, that does not sound fun.
They NEVER stop. Even when you take the hormones...NEVER.

I am not looking forward to those days.

I don't have any answers for you, but you do have my sympathy. Your picture is a great depiction.
Hang in there! With my hysterectomy they lasted 6 weeks. Thank God they are over!!! I feel your pain. :-(

Ugggghhhh why are we as women forced to go through this crap?

Gayle...i'm approaching that phase. I only get "waves of warmth" now rather than full blown hot flashes. not looking forward to those.

As survivor of cancer this gets intensified with chemo .. and I sure would love to see an answer if you find one...

Don't have those yet. But I do have the chin hair. I hope it at least becomes infrequent for you soon.
I am just getting introduced this no fun phenomenon. It's NO fun...
Love to you

Mine haven't started yet. Not looking forward to that!
They fade away eventually so hang in there, gal!

Hope they don't last too long!
I have no clue. And I am not looking forward to experiencing it at all!
I do not know. I wish you well. I have the same problem, and they tell me I'm not even in menopause yet!
I fear the hot flashes. Every other natural prospect of aging I'm pretty much at peace with, but that I am not looking forward too.
Oh no! How awful for you. :(
I don't look forward to when it happens to me and I'm convinced they're going to start any day now cuz I ain't gettin' any younger.
Um, I have no idea? They say that men can get them too, though.
At 42, I don't experience them too much yet. I get them sometimes at night while I'm sleeping...covers on...covers off...covers on...covers off...
Sure hope your HF's subside soon!
Um not yet happening to me...thank goodness, I am always hot period. Since I was like 12 I am perpetually hot.
Oh I wish I knew, I'm hoping it's only the couple of years "they" say. BTW, I will be doing a giveaway on a great DVD set on Menopause next week so stay tuned, some great info on here that I wish I had had before menopause
I have no idea when they stop, but if you find out will you please let me know. They are like a bag joke over and over and over again.
Hang in there,
jj
Oh you poor thing! I haven't gotten there, yet, but I'm not looking forward to it...I hate being hot! :)

Ooooo it all sounds pretty scary... Fingers crossed you find a solution :0)
Yeah, hot flashes are no fun. Think of them as power surges and dress in layers.
As others have said, it's different for everyone.
This too shall pass.
I feel your pain. I am normally a pretty cold person, but when a "flash" hits.........look out!
OMG, I forgot! Come on over and enter my Menopause Giveaway!!
I feel like I am having my own personal summer....all the time....lol
go to walmart.. buy a bottle of black cohash, take one a day..
my family would run for the bottle and grab me one if they thought I had forgotten to take it that day.
controls the mood swings and the hot flashes.. and it's all natural with no side effects.
