Am I Going Green? ~ It's a Start

I must admit ~ please don't hate me ~ I have not been into recycling. So I am very proud of myself today because I bought my very first reuseable bags. I only got 2 because I didn't really know if I would like these or not. I had seen some different ones on the Internet and my daughter has another kind. Plus, I just really wasn't sure how many to get and I think I might want a variety. My daughter has one that her mother in law got at Trader Joe's that is so cute, so I think I will go try to find one like it. My bags are not that large but hold tons of groceries.
Everyone has to start somewhere ~ I am starting with pretty reuseable bags!!

those are the nicest bags I've ever seen. don't feel bad I'm not very big at recycling except when it comes to the craft project material

The hardest part of reusable bags is having them when you need them. If you keep them in your car, then you need to find a way to get them BACK in the car after use. I have one cloth bag that holds a lot which I carry in my purse. Hubby does the main big grocery shopping and has two bags he manages to get back into the car. Glad to see this beginning!

Those are very pretty. We have some that we bought at Target after other ones broke. I also have a lovely (not!) one that says something about digestive tract health, which they gave me after I had a colonoscopy. Just what I want to carry around.

Hey, that's as good a place to start as any. I keep my bags in the truck. Otherwise, I found I forgot to bring them with me to the grocery store. If I forget them in the truck, I can still run out and get them.

It seems when these recyclable bags first came out, they were pretty plain. It's wonderful the way they are dressing them up now, making them fun to use.

I love my cloth bags. I keep a bunch of them in the trunk so I can't forget. You just have to toss them back in there when you've unloaded the groceries. I'm trying to get more green. I hope to sew some cloth napkins this weekend. We'll see...

I have good intentions of using these bags. They are in my car. But, I always forgot to grab them when I go into the store. In the meantime, I try to cut back on plastic bag use and reuse the ones I got. I like your bags. They are pretty.

Good for you! I bought some beautiful bags at Swoozies (which is currently going out of business; you might be able to find some deals!). I leave them in my back seat. I use them for everything - drug store, Target, etc. After I bring in whatever I've purchased I leave them next to my purse to remind me to take them back out to the car. Now, if only I could convince Hubby (who does the bulk of the grocery shopping) to use reusable bags.....

It's all about baby-steps.

Good for you for taking that first step! It's really not that hard to be "green." The backseat of my car is full of a variety of reusable bags. The key is remembering to take them into the store with you! I'm finally much better at it, but there were many times when I first started that I'd be checking out and remember my bags were still in the car. Ha!

I have a bunch of them because my grandkids sold them for a fundraiser at school. I always have them in my car but I sometimes forget to take them into the store with me. None of mine are as pretty as yours though.

Yeah!!!!! Good for you. I have 6 bags...4 are from the store where we shop, one of them is from Target and the other someone gave me and it's my favorite.

Try all different kinds. It's so awesome to shop and not have any stupid plastic bags or end up with tons of paper bags all stacking up.

You are going to love it!

Those are fabulous bags. Once you get used to it you will not mind it at all. Its second nature for us now - one of our stores doesn't even have any plastic bags and you have to buy paper. So I always always have bags in my car. I also have one clothes store that takes a dollar off our purchase if we bring our own bag.

Its a slow revolution but its coming and you have taken your first stylish step.

Sadly, I am not huge on the recycling either, but the fam bought bags so I use them. And bought a few more myself. Most are Trader Joes because they hold A LOT, unlike ones you get from Stop & Shop or Price Chopper.

I feel good about myself when I remember to take my bags into the store with me. But . . . I often forget. Let the reusable bag police come find me, I suppose. :)

Good for you! I have a large stash of reuseable bags but I forget to take them into the store. AND with the puppy, I like to use the plastic bags to collect his deposits from the yard.

Hey, those are cute!! dang! no Trader Joes here.

It has been my plan to pick up some bags at the grocery store, they're only .99, so why I haven't yet is ridiculous. If only they were as pretty...:)

I've accumulated a dozen tote-bags over the years, and like the other gals, forget them in the car half the time. I still like to get the paper bags at the grocery store sometimes because I use them to recyle newspapers in.

It is a good start. Now if everyone would do it!

Those are cute! I hang mine on the doorknob so I remember to take them back out to the car.

Not angry with you at all... I have always preferred reusable strong bags because my load is usually heavy... ;)

good for you, we all have to start somewhere. Once you get the hang of it, it gets easier. Have a great day.

Thanks for visiting my blog and the compliment on my daughters. No they are not twins (two years apart 21/23).
I have reusable bags too, but must admit I haven´t used them enough. I always forget to take them with me...

thanks for visiting our blog (a corgi in southern california) and your kind words on my grief post.

good for you for getting started with the reusable bags. We have a few but I never bring them to the store with me; always forget them at home. I see people that have their stack in their carts and then I remember them; one day I'll get my act together

our local Target gave away a free reusable bag in honor of Earth Day the other week; I thought that was a nice gesture :)

take care

Those are really cute ones!

I have quite a few from various places in various sizes, but the ones I got at Trader Joe's really are my favorite.

I love my reuseable bags. I ahve a few unique oens and a bunch from wally's world that were only 50 cents each. They carry a ton of groceries. Which my son doesn't think is fair. He is the one carrying them in.
Congrats on going green. If we all do a little, alot will be saved.

The important thing? You're starting!

Yeah! I am happy for you! Congrats! Every little bit helps. Those bags are cute!

Yes, I am slack about going green! I will admit it. The only thing that I have going green is the vinyl siding on my house! LOL

This is an awesome step in the right direction! Love it.

AWESOME!!!! Yay You!!!!!! I think you will learn to love using the reusable bags. One thing I hated about the old flimsy plastic was worrying one would break with groceries in it.

You are one stylin Mama with these shopping bags!!!

So glad others are making the switch too!

STANDING OVATION!!!!!
It's a start. I am so proud of you and excited you got some bags. After a few uses, you'll figure out what you like/don't like/need. I have an assortment for lots of different shopping needs.

What a great post and a great first step towards bettering our planet! GREAT JOB!!!!!

I love the reusable bags for grocery shopping! I'm not too proud to even take one store's bags into another store :)

I really love using reusable bags. What really made an impact on me was the book Six Degrees, Our Future On A Hotter Planet by Mark Lynas. The author clearly spelled out the devastation likely to ensue unless we act now. I read it and let me tell you, I never slip and forget to go green now.

It's a start and a good one...everything helps. I won reusable produce bags from Erin at The Mother Load and LOVE them. I thought they would be a hassle (I already use shopping bags) but they are not. at all. I love them.

Nice bags! Keep them on the front seat of your car until the habit of remembering them is planted-- Then you'll actually feel funny when you don't have them in the store!

Congratulations,
xo

Good for you! I've been using canvas shopping bags for the past thirty years -- they're either in the car or parked by my purse, waiting for the next time I go out! I only shop once a week so I have around none bags!

What got me started was a visit to the landfill and the sight of trees covered with plastic bags blowing in the wind. That, and having a plastic bag with a bottle of champagne in it tear -- and seeing the battle smash on the rock walkway.
