ALL MY CARS

The very first car I owned was a White 1970 Ford Mustang Fastback, bought and paid for with my own money. I was 17 years old and was working at the Telephone Company. After buying shoes, purses and clothes, I saved almost every cent I made. That was many many years ago and I have a terrible memory so bare with me. But the way I remember it: my dad and Maxine went to the Ford Dealership and looked at cars and then came back and said they found two...can't remember what the other one was but anyway I picked the Mustang. I don't have a scanner but I am going to try to take a picture of a picture and post it. Oh did I mention that I didn't have my drivers license when I bought it and didn't get my license until about 3 months later. My car payments were $88. a month for 3 years, I think.

We traded that Mustang in for a Chev Station Wagon in 1973.

Then we bought a Honda Civic, Ford Tempo, a Mazda, a Saturn, another Saturn in Baltimore, Md because we wrecked the first one running over a medium trying to get gas on the way to my 2nd cousins wedding. Because we needed a big trunk for the many trips we planned on taking over the next several years we bought a Dodge Intrepid which I still have just sitting in the yard.
My current car is a Honda CRV. I couldn't decide between the Honda Accord or the CRV, and after driving both, I just liked the way the CRV felt and drove. I also rode in the back seat of both and the CRV was the winner hands down. It doesn't have the power of the Intrepid but I sure like the feel of being up higher. I can slide out of the seats rather than pulling and sometimes crawling out of the lower Intrepid.

Interestiong Tid-Bit: First Car--- Ford Mustang----$2,000.

Last Car----Honda CRV--$27,500.
What a difference time makes in the cost of a car.

Because of the many trips we made touring the US and with no car problems I think, I would have to say the Intrepid is my fovorite. I have many wonderful memories of places and people I met while driving this car.

Can't judge the CRV yet as I haven't had it long enough to fairly judge it.

I traded my cherokee in for my accent around a year and a half ago because of the gas prices. I love the gas mileage on the acent but hate it cause it is so little. I miss my cherokee.

My dream car is a 1966 or 67 Mustang convertible.

I had many accords and a prelude. Honda's are the best...they never break.

My 1st: a 1966 VW Beetle, then a 76 Super Beetle, followed by a Toyota Corolla hatchback. Then I had company cars for a while. I leased a Ford Taurus when I moved to Columbus, OH. After getting married and moving to the Charlotte area we purchased a Jeep Cherokee Laredo. I loved, loved, loved that car. Why did we ever trade it in on the conversion van? Oh yeah, kids. From there it was a Mercury Sable station wagon and finally on to my current car: Toyota Rav4. Memories!

Ah, memories. The first car I actually liked was a Mazda 626, comparable to a Honda Accord but much more available--and it was totally reliable and fun to drive. Now I've been driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee for 11 years, and I LOVE it. I'd feel bad about the mileage except I drive less than 3,000 miles a year. I hope I never lose my ability to climb up into it...maybe I can just carry a little step if it comes to that!

Great topic! There have been many cars in my driveway over the years, but every one of them was registered in my husband's name. I'm very excited today at the age of 53 to have my first ever car owned by and registered to me - a little 2003 Olds Alero.

You know what else has changed? The sturdiness of a car. I used to have a 1989 Buick Century. The thing was a TANK!! The car after that was a flimsy little Kia Rio that spent the whole time falling apart and denting if you so much as LOOKED at it wrong. So now we're driving a 1988 Honda and it's GREAT!!

$2000 for a mustang? Oh to have a time machine!

I have had a lot of vehicles. A Honda is always a good choice in my book!

Your Mustang was gorgeous! My hubby was the proud owner of a 69 Mach 1 Mustang. I find it very interesting that you only paid $2,000 for it in 1970. Wow.

Nice wheels girl!! My first car was a Pontiac LeMans I think...it needed a paint job but it got me where I needed to go and it cost me $700 used. We had a Buick of some kind, a station wagon, a Toyota Corolla...maybe two of those, a Voyager, a conversion van a Toyota Highlander, a Camry and now my beloved Prius.

I loved the big van. We drove that thing back and forth to Winona, MN to watch our son play college soccer. It was awesome.

I also loved my Highlander. It was a great car. When gas prices kept going up we traded it for the Camry which I hated. The interior was ugly and it was the pits in the winter.

Last June I got Adam....my sexy, zippy little boy. I love my Prius. Even in the cold cold winter here in Illinois I am getting 47 mpg!

I like that first car of yours, too, very hip. What a fun topic, reminiscing on cars, and the memories they inspire. My first car was a used 1969 Chevy Nova that my mother gave me when I was 18, standard shift, three on the tree they called it. Definitely a fun car to tool around in!

OMG - I am going to do a car post next week. While preparing my Writers Workshop post for tomorrow, I found all these photos of my family with their cars - apparently a love affair.

OMG... my very first car was a 1970 Mustang as well! But by 1980 it was 10 years old and $500... my grandpa paid for it and I paid him back $50 a month. I have loved Mustangs ever since and waited over 20 years to get another one... but that was short-lived... I got preggers again shortly after and ended up selling it for yet another uncool mini van.... it was just too hard on my back to get the lil one in and out of the carseat in the back seat.... so practicality took over.

I miss my Mustang :(

Love the Mustang! *drool* My BIL has had a 68 fastback in his wrecking yard for years. I offered him $4k for just the shell. He said he wouldn't take it. He told my husband that he sold it this past summer for $500. It made me sick! I would have loved to have that car.
My daughter has a jar (the 12 year old) that has a pic of a 69 Camaro taped on it. She puts 20% of everything she makes in the jar for her car.
Classics are getting as pricey as the new cars, these days. No wonder my husband doesn't want car payments! ;)
