Bambi Gets Lost

The simplest things really do make me happy!! When my girls were little I use to read to them every night and one of their favorite books was Bambi. I thought I had saved it but I never could find it and then about three weeks ago I saw what I thought was a book just like it on Maxine's book shelf. Wouldn't you know it......It was THE book....not mine but one exactly like mine that I can't find and Maxine said I could have it!! The minute I started reading it to Bryson, it was like I don't know all these special feelings came back!!! So thank you so very much Maxine for giving me Bambi Gets Lost!!!!!!

How great that she gave you the book. I love it when my grandkids are reading the same books I read to my kids.

That is so awesome! I have three big boxes filled with books from when my kids were little. We use to read a lot! I have Little Golden Books from over 30 years ago, and then lots of Seuss, Frog and Toad and I'm not sure what else. They are just waiting for the day when I can sit a little one on my lap to read to them!

Isn't that great! Hopefully in this version, Bambi's mom doesn't get shot, not sure how that would go over with the kiddies these days Lol!

Our children's books are treasures for sure. I found two recently, circa 1956. Picture books that are slightly tattered, but precious. Lo and behold, my best friend saw them and began to cry, because she is one of the only people I've ever known who was read these very same books! She borrowed them to read to her grandson.

Bambi was the first movie I ever saw. My big sister took me and YES, I cried because Bambi's mom got shot... but I think kids today see far worse inadvertently, all around them. Mostly what I remember is the feeling of being with her. We went home and a couple of years later, we shared the book one evening, in our room.

THANK you for making me think of both stories. I love your blog, by the way.

Now that's a nice story. You get a duplicate book just like the one you read to your kids. And now you get to read it to one of theirs. Nice.

Wait. Bambi is OK, right? What about Old Yellow?

;-)

I'm glad you have your book!

Isn't it lovely to share the same book with Bryson now? I am so glad you found the lost Bambi. She must have missed you too ;)
I do share with my kids some of the books I loved as a child and I am sure I will share them again with my grandkids when I have them...

I didn't even know that there was a "Bambi gets lost"

That was very nice for you to be able to get that.

I had the same feeling about "The Yearling" when I read it to my son. It might be worth re-reading to get the same "hit" for me!

Bambi has to be my all time favorite! I remember Dad going deer hunting and all of us kids (and Mom) screamed and cried when he brought home Bambi's Dad. (I've never eaten venison and never will!) So glad you found the book!

I kept my kids' favourite books (or maybe they were my favs), either way, they're like old friends. Great that you found the one you were looking for.

I love this. My grandmother used to read Shel Silverstein to me when I was a kid. I still have that original copy of 'The Giving Tree' that we used to read together some 30 years ago - and my love of reading has never faltered. So glad you were able to find the book. I know just what you mean about it all coming back!

I've never seen this one.

I used to read to my guys every night too...even up until they were 10, 11 years old. They loved it.

I love the fact that it is always the simplest things that make us smile the widest. Happy reading :0)

I can always identify the children in my class whose grandparent or parent reads to them consistently. It makes such a difference. I love the story of Bambi and have not yet read the one where he gets lost. I will have to check it out.

I have been reading to my children for years, and sometimes they still want me to read out loud in my room. They are too big to rock these days. I think if I asked them...they would love to be rocked...I hold them in the rocking chair sometimes when they are not feeling well.

Finding those little treasures from another time is such a treat. My oldest daughter loved a book called "Come Over To My House." I've been thinking about it for her son, and I hope I saved it. I hope to have our home out of storage soon, and I will look for that book.

I love all those stories! One that sticks out in my mind is "Honey Bunny Funny Bunny," probably one of the newer ones though.
Enjoy reading them all over again! :)

Books are so transporting that way, taking us away to the story, taking our emotions and feelings to those cherished times. One of my favorite books to read to my children was The Story of Ping, about a little yellow duck that lived on the Yangtze River. I'll always own a copy of that book!

It does feel good to read to children, and it makes them interested in reading.

Bambi was lost, but now is FOUND!

I have read to all my children but struggled with Kooper. He didn't love the classics like me. And neither he nor Kenna enjoyed Where the Wild Things Are which was my favorite growing up. I read it over and over. I imagined my own adventures...so grand, so wild.

Imagine my elation when Kamden embraced it too! It's funny how books can touch our lives so deeply.
